But 'talking' is not communicating.


When we communicate effectively there's a whole bunch of subtle and not so subtle signals being given and received both ways almost simultaneously.

Consider the loving gaze of a dog - tail wagging, smile on its face, 'happy panting' slightly... what is it saying? Walkies? Food? Treat? I love you?
It could be all of those or none. And it really depends on how YOU perceive that particular piece of information.

The subtle nuances of animal behaviour and how they communicate with us can be learned relatively easily and you would probably agree are often a lot more predictable than humans.

Given most of us (vets, pet retailers, groomers etc) and ourselves got involved in the 'pet industry' because of our love of animals, sometimes we're left wondering "is this really worth it?" - having to deal with 'idiot' clients and customers every day?

It seems the more upset we get by so many different personalities that don't match our own, the harder it is to deal with the problem - people!
It's not always easy dealing with people is it? - which is why you probably got involved in the pet industry.

But despite our love for all the animals, did you know we are all actually working in the 'people' business?

Many vets have admitted to us they'd rather the animals came to their practice all by themselves - much easier to deal with!!

And a lot of retailers, groomers and other pet sector workers have often left mundane '9 to 5 jobs' to work for themselves and to be with animals because of their love for them.

That's good of course - but all those animals have 'people' to look after them. And like it or not it is those people that we have to deal with every day.
